Karen Schrier is an Assistant Professor of Media Arts at Marist
College and Director of the Games and Emerging Media program. She also
directs the Play Innovation Lab, which creates and researches games
and media for education and social change. Prior to Marist, she
designed and produced websites, apps, and games at Scholastic,
BrainPOP, Nickelodeon and ESI Design. Her book, Knowledge Games: How
Playing Games Can Help Solve Problems, Create Insight, and Make
Change, was just published in May 2016 by Johns Hopkins University
Press. She is the editor of a book series, Education, Learning &
Games, published by ETC Press (Carnegie Mellon), and has previously
edited a series of books on games and ethics. She holds a doctorate
from Columbia University, master’s degree from MIT, and a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College.
